How the times are computed

Every clock on this site is derived from your browser's built-in copy of the IANA time zone database (tzdata) through the standard Intl.DateTimeFormat API. That database is maintained by volunteers and updated several times a year as governments change daylight-saving rules, so the offsets you see reflect the current rules for each region — including whether DST is in effect right now.

Sunrise, sunset and twilight use the standard almanac algorithm; the Moon and planets use low-precision Meeus series and JPL approximate Keplerian elements, accurate to a fraction of a degree — more than enough for rise/set times and sky charts. Eclipse dates follow NASA's canon. Public holidays are curated by hand, because no reliable free worldwide source exists.
