New Year arrives first in the Pacific: Kiritimati in Kiribati (UTC+14) celebrates a full 26 hours before Baker Island (UTC−12). Among the cities tracked here Auckland is first, followed by Sydney and Brisbane, with Honolulu among the last. Because the Southern Hemisphere is in summer, New Zealand and eastern Australia are on daylight time in January, which pulls them even further ahead.
